What are the best shoes to wear when going canoeing?

I was thinking maybe some Columbia sandals? Do you know what the best kind to get and where?. i’m going canoeing this weekend and i need the right shoes.
Good old fashioned deck shoes ( like a pair of womens keds). Canvas slip ons with a real light textured sole that grips like you wouldn’t believe. They have been around like a thousand years and still are the best for grip, cut protection, and for NOT jamming your little or big toe. Trust me…..deck shoes are the way to go, and jamming your toes can make a good weekend bad….real fast. For women, if I could make a brand recommendation, skechers women’s shoes work real well.

Kayaking Big Bend Dam, Lake Oroville, CA

35′ drop over Big Bend Dam on N. Fork of Feather River. The Big Bend run is a class III / IV run just below the Poe Powerhouse and Poe reach. The run is about 7 miles long when lake levels on Lake Oroville drop to 740 ft. Included in video clip is Box Car Rapid which should be scouted. Other class iv rapids appear at the end when the lake is about 705 feet (big holes on left, read and run from river right) and rumors of a class V rapid lurking even futher down and may have showed up when the lake was really low in Dec 2008. The box car is no longer sitting in the middle of the rapid but there is still train wreckage evident on river left. Flow in video is approx 1200 cfs but turbines can release up to 4000cfs and the waves get quite huge at higher flows so the run has a fun big water feel. The run is only uncovered in the fall during draught years and when the Oroville Reservoir is low (we start running it when the lake drops below 740ft). We hired a boat to tow us out of the lake (call Lake Oroville Marina) otherwise you face a long paddle out (4 to7 miles depending on lake level) to the boat ramp at Dark Canyon.

Solo Canoe Trip 2009 (3 of 3)

This is part 3 of a 3 part video taken on a solo trip I did with my dog Maddy (aka The Goose) to the Algonquin region in Ontario Canada. We did a there-and-back starting at Wendigo Lake and moving South to Clam Shell Lake.
The weather was better than I could have hoped for with lakes of glass for almost the whole trip.
It was a nice relaxing trip and a great way to end the season.

What is a 12′ Eclipse Perception kayak used for?

Im brand new to kayaking and picked up a used Eclipse Perception kayak for dirt cheap but don’t exactly know weather it is meant for recreational river kayaking or sea kayaking?

A 12 foot kayak is going to be a recreational boat best suited for paddling on lakes and other flatwater. Whitewater kayaks are shorter with lots of rocker and no keel. sea kayaks are longer and usually more narrow to track better and be more stable.

Did you ever get a paddling in school, and what was it like?

How would you say the pain of the paddle compares to that of a switch or belt? I’ve felt both the switch and belt but never the paddle. Which one hurts worse?

Never was a recipient of a paddling./

How important are the STAR assessments in kayaking?

I ve started having lessons & everyone mentions them but there not cheap. Are they really important & if so why ?

They’re useful as they indicate your experience, also as a beginneer (hopefully) teach you how to do it right rather than struggling with poor technique. More importantly they give you safe secure time on water with people who know what they are doing and learn from mistakes safely.

If you join a local club, rather than going to a commercial organisation you can save a lot of money on the course fees!! Try BCU for club details.

Happy paddling

Who makes a Tandem Kayak that can also be paddled solo?

I’m looking for a Tandem Kayak with room for gear that could also be easily paddled / handled solo. I’d prefer a sit on top, and it doesn’t seem that a sit-in would be able to be configured this way. Any information would be appreciated. Specifically Make, Model, or website where I can look at them. Thanks in advance!

Tandem kayaks are longer than solo models. Using such a boat will require more effort and may be cumbersome. Have you paddled a SOT? What kind of gear do you want to carry? canoe and Kayak magazines carry an annual listing of manufacturers. Is there a boat dealer in your area? Visit. You also need consult with other boaters as to their recommendations.
