What kind of Old Town canoe should I buy?
I know I want to buy an Old Town canoe however, picking the type I want is a bit more difficult. I want a canoe that is versatile. I want to be able to use it solo or tandem and be able to canoe easily through calm lakes as well as have some fun with some simple rapids. I would also love it to have stability in the water.

I have an Old Town Guide 147. I love it. It’s not one of the higher end canoes, and as it gets filled with water it become more and more unstable. But keep it dry, or take the time to bail it out when you do splash water in it, then it’s awesome. It has molded seats, so you need something to sit on when paddling solo, since the molded seats face the wrong way. I got a $15 canoe seat from Gander Mountain, and it works great.
This is a $400 canoe. And it is simply awesome. Still water, swift water and Class II rapids, both solo and tandem. Check, done that!
