Any one used Costa Rica Extreme (tour company) – specifically Sea Kayaking in Tortuguero?
Looking for opinions on this company? Are they any good? Safety aware? Provided lodging on the kayak trip? Any info you can offer would be appreciated.
Thanks!
That is not one of the tour companies listed in the TicosLand web directory. I cannot tell you if it is reliable. I suggest that you use the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism website to find out more about this company or the TicosLand web directory to find any companies which cater to the extreme tourism trade.
Kayaking, what is the best buy for a sea kayak, plastic or glass? Any brands better than others?
A plastic kayak is going to hold up better than a fiberglass one especially if you ever get around rocks quite a bit. A rock could potentially crack the fiberglass where as a plastic one is not going to crack. The only benefit that I know to a fiberglass kayak is the drag is less, but unless you are paddling everyday you wouldn’t be able to tell alot of difference. For the money, the plastic kayak is your best all around boat for your money.
How can kayaks float if the material they are made from is denser than water?
many kayaks are made of plastics and other composite materials that are denser than water, so how are they able to float in water?
Bernouli’s Principle says that a body in a fluid is bouyed upward by a force equal to the weight of the displaced fluid. A kayak (or a steel ship – or, yes, even one with a hull made of concrete – will float if it pushes aside (displaces) water which weighs more than it does. That really is the function of the hull of any floating craft: Push aside the water so the displaced water will support the hull and its contents.
How come there are no aircraft carriers with outrigger, like outrigger canoes?
Having outriggers mean better balance.
With 3 hulls, even if one is damaged you have two more.
Means you have 3 runways instead of only one.
Just how much do you want to pay for the next aircraft carrier?

What type of clothing can you wear under a dry-suit while sea kayaking?
I’ve got a set of thermals that I wear either on the sea, on the river and for diving. Take a look here:
